Farewell

This final edition of the Teddington Travel to Work Network newsletter, produced by SWELTRAC, provides a final update on the status of the network and follows the formal minutes from the most recent meeting, which took place on 17th February. Click here to view the meeting notes. Many thanks to NHS Richmond for hosting the meeting.

Nick will remain at the Council until Monday 9th May and during this time will aim to finalise the details of the next network meeting and confirm the Council's future role and input. During this time, if you have any questions, please get in touch: nicholas.bailey@richmond.gov.uk or 020 8487 5364.

Website

The network website (http://teddington.sweltrac.org.uk), part of the SWELTRAC site, will remain live until late October 2011. All organisations are encouraged to include the Teddington map on your own "How to get to us" page. This can be done by asking your IT department to insert the following page within an iframe: http://travelplans.pindar.com/teddington/.

Merchandise

All organisations that requested merchandise should have received a delivery yesterday. A combination of pedometers, maps, snap wraps, puncture repair kits, cycle computers and other products was distributed amongst 30 businesses in the SWELTRAC sub-region, with the majority going to Teddington. Last week, you should have also received a pack of information on maintaining your sustainable travel initiatives in the future. This advice is also available on the SWELTRAC website.

Dr Bike is back!

SWELTRAC has provided funding for additional Dr Bike sessions, to be taken at any time in the next few months. Tony has been provided with funding for 81 hours of Dr Bike across the SWELTRAC region, of which it is envisaged that the majority will take place in Teddington. Please contact Tony directly at tony@pedalmedic.com, or 07951 048 556 to book your sessions. You are asked not to book too many sessions in advance, to allow others to also take advantage of this, but please feel free to contact Tony with any requests and/or questions. You are probably all aware of the system but we suggest that you book in 15-minute slots for staff, to ensure you make the best use of Tony’s time.

Teddington Bike to Work Week 3 ?

In addition to the Dr Bike sessions outlined above, 8 hours have been set aside for potential network Bike Week events, to take place in June. It would be great to build upon the success of the 2010 event, which was awarded Best Cycling Event at the London Cycling Awards. It is strongly advised that businesses again work together to put on a third network bike event in June 2011.

Car share expansion and extension

Work is currently underway to add new sub-groups to the Liftshare scheme, so we will shortly have 9 sub-groups in total: Haymarket, LGC, NHS Richmond, NMO, NPL, Pinewood, St Mary's (staff), St Mary's (students) and Tearfund.
In addition to this, the scheme's licence has been extended by SWELTRAC to 2014. This means that no further payment will be due until 25th April 2014. When the scheme is finally due for renewal, the invoice is intended to go to Richmond Council in the first instance.
There are two network car-share pull-up banners, which were used during Liftshare Week to promote the scheme. If anyone has capacity to look after these banners, please could you let Nick know? It would be preferable if the group could hold these, for ease of access. Otherwise the banners will remain at the Council and Nick will try to ensure that you are all aware of the person to contact to get access to them.

Richmond's Local Implementation Plan

Richmond Council's Local Implementation Plan for transport, which sets out the Council's plans for delivering the Mayor of London's Transport Strategy from 2011 onwards, has recently been open for consultation. Table 5 of Annex H of the draft refers to the intention to allocate funding towards workplace travel plan business support, namely: "To provide support to local businesses in developing and maintaining their Workplace Travel Plans. This program will seek to support and build on the work already undertaken through the Teddington Travel to Work Network with a view to creating similar networks in other key commercial areas of the Borough." It is, of course, very pleasing to see the commitment from Richmond to provide funding towards the network and other initiatives for the next three years. SWELTRAC provided a response to this consultation, which can be viewed here. The response was sent alongside a copy of the network letter that was sent to Andrew Darvill in October last year. Any feedback on this consultation will be passed on to all members.

Future meetings

Thank you for the overwhelming support that has been provided by all members, both for the network and more generally for the work of SWELTRAC. Specifically, thank you to Lensbury and St Mary's for the offers to host the next two meetings. Before Nick leaves on May 9th, he will confirm the date/time for the May meeting:

TBC May 2011, Lensbury Ltd, Broom Road, Teddington, TW11 9NU. Please click here for a draft agenda.

9am Tuesday 23rd August, St Mary's University College, Waldegrave Road, Strawberry Hill, Twickenham, TW1 4SX

Thank you!

I would like to take this final opportunity to thank you all for your hard work and support over the past few years. The Teddington Travel to Work Network has been one of SWELTRAC's biggest success stories and I sincerely hope that it will continue to benefit your businesses and the local community even after SWELTRAC is long gone. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you all through the network, I wish you all the very best for the future!

Nick
