SWELTRAC - Uniting London's Transport

Challenge Funds

The Challenge Fund provides support for sustainable transport projects that contribute towards the implementation of measures included in an organisation’s Travel Plan. Applicants are invited to bid for funding to enhance their Travel Plan up to the sum of £5,000, depending on the proposed project, projected outcomes and organisational size and commitment. This amount must be match funded by the organisation.

We have recently granted funding to organisations in Kingston and Sutton for measures to support their travel plans. Watson & Sole in Sutton have installed a shower into their office, to encourage further members of staff to cycle to work. Ivor Dillon, Technical Director at Watson & Sole is pleased with the instant impact that the shower has had “one of our colleagues is using it regularly already, and he was a non-rider before we had the shower, so he’s one of the converts! Others have looked at the Cycle Scheme website and are looking at purchasing bikes so I think it is definitely going to have been a worthwhile investment.”

St Paul’s Church, Kingston Hill have used the funding to produce maps of the transport links around their site, as well as to install additional secure cycle parking for staff and visitors. The maps have been made available to staff, volunteers and visitors to St Paul’s, outlining the transport options available for travelling to the church, to try to encourage alternatives to car use.

Finally, Challenge Funds have also helped JPY, a Surbiton based company to install covered cycle parking and a shower as part of their larger refurbishment project.

If you would like to discuss how we can assist with funding for similar measures at your site, please let us know.
