Travel Plans Newsletter - 9th Edition
Hello fellow travel planners and welcome to the September issue of the SWELTRAC newsletter! As the days become shorter and the summer holidays become a distant memory, we offer some advice on keeping your staff travelling actively. For those people that need to travel by car or for whom the car is too big a draw during winter, please consider promotion of Liftshare Week next month.
Uni & College roadshows @Richmond
With September seeing the return of students and teachers to college and university, we have been very busy promoting sustainable forms of travel at local educational establishments. In conjunction with Smarter Travel Richmond upon Thames we organised roadshows at four colleges and universities in the Borough. On 10th September new students had an opportunity to find out about Oyster Cards and cycle facilities at Richmond American University. A week later Richmond Adult Community College launched its travel plan and staff and students had the opportunity to get their bikes checked by Dr Bike and to receive advice about other modes of travel. This week there will be further events at Richmond upon Thames College and St. Mary’s University College.
Showcasing your work
We have recently been updating our case study database to highlight the great work that our partner businesses have been doing. Currently 10 case studies have been produced, which provide best practice for travel planning in the area and outline organisations' experiences in working with SWELTRAC. If you would like to get an idea of the rewards of travel planning in action, please take a look through our examples.
Keep the cycle going
As the temperature drops and the nights draw in, don't stop living the dream! Just invest in a waterproof jacket, gloves and some lights and there is no reason to stop cycling through the winter months. The cost of purchasing this basic equipment will almost certainly be less than your public transport ticket or car fuel, especially if you factor in the great discounts available.
If you would like some help in promoting the continued benefits of cycling at this time of year please contact Nick by email or phone 020 8487 5364. We have a limited number of Dr Bike cycle maintenance sessions available as well as promotional items to distribute such as puncture repair kits and high-vis snap wraps.
Liftshare Week
The first annual Liftshare Week will take place from 4th to 8th October. In the last edition of our newsletter we highlighted the benefits of car sharing and offered some advice on promotion. The Liftshare Week would be a perfect time to re-
enforce these benefits (such as saving 50% of the fuel costs, having someone to talk to on the journey or potentially even priority car parking). The SWELTRAC Travel Plan Team is happy to support your events, please just get in touch. Additionally there is a selection of promotional materials available to download from the Liftshare website.
