Travel Plans Newsletter - Issue 10

This month, as well as updating you on the recent work that we have been doing with workplaces across the region, we are offering all organisations a bespoke surveying service and the opportunity to gain national recognition though commitment to sustainable transport. As always, if you have any feedback on the newsletter, or ideas for future articles, please get in touch.

Surveys on demand

Get your business moving in the right directionAutumn is traditionally a period of resurveying for a number of organisations. We have seen commitment from many businesses that have developed a travel plan in the past to continue achieving great success. Surveys are inevitably very important in helping to establish whether shifts in travel behaviour have occurred over time and to identify what else can be done to further inspire staff. Currently, SWELTRAC is assisting 10 organisations with resurveying including Kingston Eco-op and St. Paul’s Church in Kingston; Vinum, Positive Thinking and St. Mary’s University College in Richmond; Smith and Byford, Sutton and Wallington Fire Brigade and Sutton Salvation Army in Sutton; URS/Scott Wilson in Merton and London Rowing Club in Wandsworth.

SWELTRAC's online surveying toolSWELTRAC is on hand to support all organisations through the survey process. Your organisation will be able to choose a combination of online and paper-based questionnaires to survey staff, visitors, students and/or patients. Click here to view a sample online staff survey. This survey is iTRACE compliant and fully-flexible so can be edited to ensure it is most applicable to your organisation. If your travel plan is due for a revision and you would like to get an up-to-date picture on the travel situations of your staff, please contact us.

Are you award-winning?

We would like to bring to your attention the upcoming ACT TravelWise Awards. The awards, which will take place in Liverpool on 2nd December, include the category of Commuter Friendly Workplace of the Year, which is billed as the flagship award for the Smarter Choices profession. We believe that there are a large number of organisations in South West London that can certainly claim to be leaders in this field and we would like to invite you all to consider whether you would like to apply. The application process closes on Friday 22nd October but if any organisation would like support with applying for this award, or would like SWELTRAC to make a nomination on your behalf, please contact Nick as soon as possible.

Tearfund employee registering with the Teddington car share networkLiftshare Week

Liftshare, a social enterprise that helps individuals to travel more sustainably by sharing their journeys, ran its inaugural Liftshare Week between 4th and 8th October. To tie in with this national event, SWELTRAC helped Teddington organisations to launch their network car share scheme.
The Teddington car share scheme involves several large employers in the area, with the aim to help those staff members that drive to work to find potential car share partners. Through the course of the week several events were planned and a number of staff registered on the journey-matching database. All those who registered received an information leaflet and could choose a maglite, A-Z London map or umbrella. More information about the Teddington car share scheme can be found here.

Cycle Superhighways Promotion

Try a Cycle Superhighway simulator at events across LondonDuring the past two weeks SWELTRAC has been assisting Transport for London with promotion of the Barclays Cycle Superhighways workplace package. The team attended two promotional events, the first at the Employee Benefits show near Angel on 28th and 29th September and the second at the Total Workplace Management exhibition in Olympia on 6th and 7th October.
Overall the events proved to be extremely successful with 60 expressions of interest gained from the Employee Benefits show and 30 expressions of interest from the Total Workplace Management exhibition. In the summer of 2011 two further Cycle Superhighway routes will be launched – Bow to Aldgate and Wandsworth to Westminster.
