Travel Plans Newsletter - Sixth Edition

On the longest day of the year, the summer solstice, we are pleased to send you the June issue of the SWELTRAC Travel Plans newsletter.

Smarter Travel Awards

We are delighted to announce that SWELTRAC has been shortlisted for the ‘Team of the Year’ award at the Smarter Travel Awards! The team has worked extremely hard over the past year developing workplace travel plans as well as promoting other sustainable travel initiatives such as free Dr Bike clinics and the Teddington Travel to Work Network Car Share scheme amongst others.

However there is more good news! Tearfund, an established member of the Teddington Travel to Work Network has also been shortlisted for the ‘Workplace of the Year’ Award as well as Lindsay Chapman from the National Physical Laboratory who has been nominated for the ‘Champion of the Year’ award. Both Tearfund and Lindsay have been really proactive in the promotion of sustainable travel. Both nominations are thoroughly deserved and we wish them the best of luck! The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony held at the London Transport Museum on the 24th June. To view a full list of all the categories and nominations as well as a brief description of each, please visit the Smarter Travel Awards website.

LGC - New cycle shelter

Earlier this month LGC proudly opened their new cycle parking facilities, with covered parking for 60 bikes. LGC received some funding support from TfL through the Corporate package. As the photo shows, the shelter is now extremely popular with staff. Andrew French, Facilities Manager, is pleased with the staff reaction. "What is really encouraging is that the numbers cycling have clearly increased since the new shelter opened."

European commendation for Teddington

As reported in our April edition, the Teddington Travel to Work Network was shortlisted for the Networks category at the European Platform on Mobility Management Awards in Graz last month. The top award went to Heathrow Airport but Teddington received a commendation from the judges and we are very proud to have been recognised alongside one of the busiest airports in the world. Congratulations to everyone involved with the network!

In addition to advice and support they will also be providing a £1,000 project budget to help businesses implement walking promotions and activities. Please contact Kevin for more details.
