Travel Plans Newsletter - Fourth edition

Welcome to the April edition of the SWELTRAC Travel Plans newsletter! This newsletter comes hot on the heels of the start of "British Summer Time" and therefore lighter evenings perfect for cycling home.
Next week is likely to see the first national rail strike since 1994. Rail workers will walk out from Tuesday 6th to Friday 9th April, with signal staff striking from 06.00 to 10.00 and 18.00 to 22.00 on those days. For an update on the timetable changes for operators in London, please see this information from the BBC. We advise that all rail commuters check live train times before travelling next week.

Teddington Network is going European!

We are delighted to announce that the Teddington Travel to Work Network has been shortlisted for the Pan-European Workplace Mobility Plan Award (PEWTA) in the category of Networks at this year's ECOMM. This is a culmination of all the hard work and commitment from the network members since its launch in 2007, resulting in a 3% reduction in single-occupancy car use at the organisations we have monitored so far. Further details will be available on the Teddington website shortly, but if you have any questions please get in touch with Nick.

Walk to Work Week 2010

As mentioned in our last newsletter the annual Walk to Work Week will be taking place this month. Registration is now open! SWELTRAC will be providing a free walking toolkit to organisations interested in taking part and so far 23 organisations have signed up to receive the packs. In addition all companies who receive our walking toolkit will be entered into a prize draw to win a scrumptious breakfast catering for up to 20 people. For more information please contact Kevin or visit our walking web page.

Pinewood Group bike event

Teddington Studios, part of the Pinewood Group, recently signed off their travel plan with help from SWELTRAC and Smarter Travel Richmond. As part of their travel plan work the studios held a bike event in partnership with Haymarket. During the day staff were able to sign up to have their bikes checked by Dr Bike, pick up some free cycling merchandise, get expert advice from a local bike shop and sign up for Smarter Driver training.

LGC Travel Plan Launch

On Monday 15th March LGC, an international science-based company with headquarters in Teddington, launched their travel plan. The plan was completed with the help of Transport for London under the Corporate Scheme designed to assist large workplaces with such projects. LGC is committed to promoting sustainable travel options to their 500+ staff and large number of visitors, with their main objective being to increase the number of staff who car share, walk and cycle as part of their regular commute. Incidentally, the travel plan was launched on the same day that 20 cycle stands arrived, ordered through SWELTRAC as part of the "Take a Stand" initiative.

Travel information leaflets distributed to NHS Sutton and Merton and St Helier Hospital staff

SWELTRAC has developed NHS cycle and public transport maps for the NHS Sutton and Merton HQ in London Borough of Merton and St Helier Hospital in London Borough of Sutton. Each organisation received 1,000 copies to distribute to staff as well as a pdf to upload on their websites.
Interestingly the maps of NHS Sutton and Merton are part of their relocation project to a new headquarters. We are looking forward to hearing feedback on the maps from their staff.
More information on the mapping offering from SWELTRAC is available here.
