Farewell!

After 16 years of the partnership, and 8 years of travel planning in the sub-region, the South and West London Transport Conference drawed to a close on Thursday 31st March 2011. We would like to thank each and every one of you for your help, support and commitment to sustainable transport and we hope that we leave you with a lasting legacy that can be built upon for many years to come.

History

A Travel Plan Co-ordinator was first appointed to SWELTRAC in 2003, with the team growing to three full-time co-ordinators in 2008. Major successes of the team include development of the SharetheCar website, creation of the South West London NHS Travel Plan Network and the Teddington Travel to Work Network, winning the 2008 Smarter Travel Award for Best Sub-Region, and the production of newsletters to provide regular updates on travel planning in the area.

In total, the team has worked with around 200 local organisations of all sizes, including supporting the major projects of Smarter Travel Sutton and Smarter Travel Richmond.
In recent years the Teddington Travel to Work Network was highly commended in the 2010 European Platform on Mobility Management Awards and won Best Cycling Event for Teddington Bike Week 2 at the 2010 London Cycling Awards.
Liz, Ben, Jakub, Lucy, Nick and Kevin have thoroughly enjoyed working with the many local businesses and helping south west London to become a leader in Workplace Travel Plans.

Information, going forward

Organisations were recently sent a pack of information on maintaining their travel initiatives in the future. This included a letter (click here to view), information on running future travel surveys (view here), advice on reduced-cost travel information leaflets (more information here), and the SWELTRAC Workplace Travel Plan Guide (here). For further advice on travel planning, organisations are advised to contact their local Borough Council. Click on the links below to visit the Local Authority Travel Plan / Transport Planning pages:

Website

The SWELTRAC website (http://travelplans.sweltrac.org.uk) will remain live until late October 2011. Businesses are encouraged to use this website as a resource during the next few months to ensure that travel activities can continue without the hands-on support that has previously been available.

National travel awareness campaigns

The following national events will again be taking place in 2011. Each of the organisers will be providing support for the workplace events that take place during the national campaigns. Please visit their respective websites for more information and don't miss out on the opportunity to hold a great event for your employees.

Walk to Work Week (9th - 13th May 2011)
Bike Week (18th - 26th June 2011)
Liftshare Week (3rd - 7th October 2011)

Thank you, and goodbye

Once again, many thanks to everyone involved with SWELTRAC in workplace travel planning in South West London. We wish you all the very best for a happy, successful and sustainable future!
