What is Travel Awareness?

You might like to tie-in your awareness raising events at your workplace to other national events. If any of the campaigns and events mentioned are of interest to you, contact your local Council or SWELTRAC for more information and help in organising your own events.

Bike Week - (June)

An annual national wide promotion of all kinds of cycling activities. Hundreds of 'Bike2Work' rides are organised each year by local authorities, NHS trusts and other employers and workplace Bike Users Groups (BUGS). Activities typically available during these events include;

London Cycling Campaign (LCC) can also provide advise and assistance to any cycling events.

Walk to Work Week - (April)

The campaign aims to raise the profile of walking as a viable, sustainable transport solution for London’s commuters. There is a Walking Challenge where participants can get a free pedometer and clock their steps over a 6 week period.

National Liftshare Day (June)

This event seeked to raise awareness and promote the lift share programme and car sharing in general. The week is widely promoted by national radio stations, newspapers and local authorities.

European Mobility Week (September)

Promoted across Europe and the United Kingdom, this week encourages cities and boroughs to take advantage of the publicity to run sustainable travel events, "In town witout your car" days are popular across London Boroughs and Transport for London has run the London Free Wheel event during this week for the last few years, where some of Londons Central streets are closed to cars for the day and cyclists are welcomed to spend the day in down town London.

Widespread debate on the necessity for changes in behaviour in relation to mobility and in particular the use of the private car. The European Mobility Week usually takes place in September in participating cities across Europe.
