West Croydon Interchange Improvements - making public transport more attractive and accessible
October 1999
SWELTRAC continues to strive towards making public transport more attractive and accessible thereby persuading more people to use their cars less and use public transport instead.
Included in SWELTRAC's programme for the coming months is a proposal to improve the transport interchange at West Croydon. Work on this proposal, which would include the introduction of a Tramlink, should start in the New Year.
The introduction of a Tramlink to an area already served by busy rail and bus stations makes West Croydon an important transport interchange.
This scheme is being facilitated by London Transport's London Interchange Network team (LINK) and is specifically aimed at reducing the distances between the three modes of transport in the area.
This proposal would involve the creation of a new entrance to the rail station from Station Road, in the vicinity of the bus station and tram stop. The new entrance which will be additional to the existing one in North End Road would be fully accessible to wheelchair users and would make transfer between bus, tram or rail significantly more convenient.
